Linking Auditory-Induced Bouncing and Auditory-Induced Illusory Crescents: an Individual-Differences Approach

چکیده
Abstract When two disks move toward each other, overlap, and then apart, the visual system can resolve ambiguity either as streaming past other or bouncing off other. Presenting a brief beep at moment of overlap has been observed to increase proportion reported impressions (i.e., auditory-induced ) well reduce perceived between (leaving larger uncovered crescent; illusory crescents ). Previous research speculated about relationship both variables, but no direct evidence yet. We present an individual-differences study in which our participants completed / task crescent on consecutive days (to obtain test–retest reliabilities). obtained acceptable good reliabilities for effect tone dependent measures. Most importantly, were correlated moderate range suggesting that illusions are related share common underlying cognitions. Yet, correlations also indicate measures partially capture distinct aspects object correspondence.

Individual Differences in Visual and Auditory Memory^
Two groups were given visual and auditory forma of a digit memory test in a counterbalanced order (auditory-visual group and visualauditory group) under conditions of immediate and 10-second delayed recall. Two control groups were given exclusively either the visual or auditory test. Auditory memory was better than visual for immediate recall; the reverse was true for delayed recall, the intera...
متن کاملAuditory-Verbal Music Play Therapy: An Integrated Approach (AVMPT)
Introduction: Hearing loss occurs when there is a problem with one or more parts of the ear or ears and causes children to have a delay in the language-learning process. Hearing loss affects children's lives and their development. Several approaches have been developed over recent decades to help hearing-impaired children develop language skills. Auditory-verbal therapy (AVT) is one such approa...
متن کاملCentral Auditory Masking by an Illusory Tone
Many natural sounds fluctuate over time. The detectability of sounds in a sequence can be reduced by prior stimulation in a process known as forward masking. Forward masking is thought to reflect neural adaptation or neural persistence in the auditory nervous system, but it has been unclear where in the auditory pathway this processing occurs. To address this issue, the present study used a "Hu...
متن کاملIllusory percepts from auditory adaptation.
Phenomena resembling tinnitus and Zwicker phantom tone are seen to result from an auditory gain adaptation mechanism that attempts to make full use of a fixed-capacity channel. In the case of tinnitus, the gain adaptation enhances internal noise of a frequency band otherwise silent due to damage. This generates a percept of a phantom sound as a consequence of hearing loss. In the case of Zwicke...
متن کاملTopiramate-induced reversible auditory hallucination.
Topiramate (TPM) is an antiepileptic drug also used in migraine prophylaxis (Silberstein et al. 2007). Neuropsychiatric symptoms may emerge during the use of TPM (Fröscher et al. 2005). There are few reports showing a link between psychotic adverse events and use of TPM (Khan et al. 1999). Only one patient with schizoaffective disorder has been reported in the litera ture, who complained of dos...
